“It is quite another thing that God may have been, nay, evidently has been, a respecter of races, and has specially blessed and favored certain branches of the Aryan race in Europe and America. But the fact, that the white race has been more abundantly blessed with the light of the Gospel than others, is not to be understood to signify that when members of other races heard and appreciated the Gospel, they were repulsed or rejected by the Lord. … the author of Millennial Dawn holds that, while the elect Church will probably be composed chiefly of the highly favored white race, nevertheless, it will probably have in it representatives out of "every kindred, people and tongue."”

The booklet is written as a conversation on a train between "A.", a Presbyterian minister who accepts evolution, and "B.", who presents the teaching of Russell's Millennial Dawn. The passage is spoken by "B." and is expressly attributed to "the author of Millennial Dawn". The surrounding argument is that God has elected nations and races for the hearing of the gospel, not that other races are rejected.

Provenance and verification note

Confidence note. Read page by page from the item's djvu.xml on 19 September 2026. The leaf carrying the passage has the running head "The Bible versus Evolution." without a printed number; two leaves later the head reads "32 The Bible versus Evolution.", which fixes the passage at pages 30-31 and confirms the page 30 usually cited. The Internet Archive catalogue dates the item 1898; the copy has no separate printed date on the pages imaged.
