Against the defence 'individual brothers speculated': the dated expectations were published in the organisation's own books (1889, 1917, 1920, 1966), magazines (1922-24, 1968), a Kingdom Ministry insert (1974) and a magazine masthead (to 1995); the organisation itself admitted in 1980 that 'statements published' had implied probability.

“With the appearance of the book Life Everlasting—in Freedom of the Sons of God ... considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. ... there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility. It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones”
