Os nomes comumente dados na internet para a comissão de tradução vêm de um livro de memórias de Raymond Franz, ex-membro do Corpo Governante, que escreveu que os outros membros eram Nathan Knorr, Albert Schroeder e George Gangas e que seu tio, Frederick W. Franz, ‘era o único com conhecimento suficiente das línguas bíblicas para tentar uma tradução desse tipo’. A organização nunca confirmou nem negou nenhum nome.

Crisis of Conscience (4th edition), “Chapter 3, “Governing Body”, footnote 16”

2004 · p.56 · Raymond Franz · Commentary Press, Atlanta

“The New World Translation bears no translator’s name and is presented as the anonymous work of the “New World Translation Committee.” Other members of that committee were Nathan Knorr, Albert Schroeder and George Gangas. Fred Franz, however, was the only one with sufficient knowledge of the Bible languages to attempt translation of this kind. He had studied Greek for two years at the University of Cincinnati but was only self-taught in Hebrew.”

Raymond Franz was a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses from 1971 to 1980 and a nephew of Frederick W. Franz. The footnote is attached to his account of how doctrinal material was approved in the Knorr presidency.

Nota de procedência e verificação for Crisis of Conscience (4th edition), Chapter 3, “Governing Body”, footnote 16

Nota de confiança. The PDF was downloaded and converted to text on 19 September 2026 and the footnote read in full; the footnote stands at the foot of the page whose running head reads “56 CRISIS OF CONSCIENCE”, so it is on page 56; “Governing Body 57” is the running head of the following page. The book’s own contents page puts chapter 3, “Governing Body”, at pages 44-79. This establishes what the author wrote, not that the names are correct. The organisation has never published the membership of the committee, and no independent confirmation exists. Lists circulating online that add Milton Henschel do not derive from this footnote, and we did not locate their source.

Procedência da digitalização. PDF of the fourth edition hosted by friendsofraymondfranz.com, a site run in the author’s memory. The copy consulted is hosted by a third party and its lawfulness is not established, so no link to it is published here.

Notes. Use only as a discovery-level source, and only to say where the names in circulation come from. Do not state the membership of the committee as fact.

JW.org Frequently Asked Questions, “Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Have Their Own Bible?”

19 de setembro de 2026 · Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania

“In contrast, the New World Translation restores the divine name in the thousands of places where it existed in the original text, while the committee that produced the translation remains anonymous.”

The page gives three reasons for the translation — use of God’s name, accuracy and clarity — and introduces the anonymity point by observing that “one Bible translation lists the names of over 70 people who in some way contributed to its production. Yet, this same Bible omits the name of the Author—Jehovah God—altogether!” It adds that the translation “is distributed without charge”, and states that as of 1 May 2026 it is available in whole or in part in the languages then listed.

Nota de procedência e verificação for JW.org Frequently Asked Questions, Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Have Their Own Bible?

Nota de confiança. Page fetched from JW.org and read in full on 19 September 2026; wording confirmed. The date recorded is the access date because the page is undated; the page itself states its language list is current "As of May 1, 2026". The heading on the page reads "Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Have Their Own Bible?" and the browser title "Why Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Have Their Own Bible? | FAQ"; cite the heading.

Corroborado por. src-nwto-w-1950-0915-presenting, src-nwto-jv-1993-ch27-anonymity

Notes. This is the organisation’s current, public statement of why the committee is unnamed: the contrast it draws is between naming translators and naming God.
