Confidence note. The book's existence, author, publisher, ISBN and 1982 date were confirmed on 19 September 2026 from Open Library and from Google Books' catalogue record. No copy was opened: Google Books holds no preview, and no lawful full-text copy was located. No quotation from it has been recorded, and none should be published until the book is read. Notes. That BeDuhn cites Countess in his notes was confirmed from the book's index page (Google Books snippet, PA189: 'Countess, Robert, 95n1, 179nn9, 14, 15, 180nn16, 18'). The sentence the secondary literature quotes from it is attributed to pp. 91-93: the translation 'must be viewed as a radically biased piece of work. At some points it is actually dishonest. At others it is neither modern nor scholarly.'
