In a signed affidavit put before the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, Adrian Yeatts wrote that he knew he could die without blood, that no one had talked him into his decision, and that a transfusion ‘will be like raping me, molesting my body’, ending ‘Please respect me and my wishes.’

The article prints the affidavit at length. The second ellipsis in the quotation spans both further affidavit text (‘I don’t want my body if that happens… I’ll resist use of blood.’) and the magazine’s own narration, ‘Adrian’s affidavit ended with this appeal:’; the closing sentence is the affidavit’s, but it is introduced by the magazine and not printed continuously with the rest.
